I'm really excited to begin this project and try to materialize all the ideas that appeared during the past years. Time, ignorance, technical problems, and --of course-- the slow, normal learning process were the main factors to overcome until the achievement of this project. I don't know if I have found the solutions for each part of the work. Just visitors, readers, and all people that arrive to these lines will have their own opinion. Of course, I know work always can be better. But only will be better by your feedback.
This site only pretends to be an exercise between Documentary Photography and Visual Anthropology. Why? Because I'm deeply interested in social reality of the societies around the world and Human cultural diversity. My goal is to reach some interdisciplinary work and interlace Anthropology, Social Sciences and Art to capture some of those topics.
This project began in Mexico, and continuous now in Spain. I captured some aspects of social and cultural reality of my country, specially about Mexican ethnic groups. Now I feel special thankful to life to bring me a great opportunity to live in a country --as Mexico is-- with a deep cultural diversity, enriched with a large list of immigrants from all over the world who continue reproducing and re-signifying their culture in a new context: Spain.
I hope you enjoy my work as I do. I do not pretend to be a professional photographer, just another person that try to capture a little part of this amazing world that we live.
Just one more thing. I will try to write all texts in English in a way to reach more people. Of course is not my native language, and many texts I will prefer to write it in Spanish in order to express my ideas more clearly.
I have special thanks to the person who is the most important part of my life. Thanks for all, my beloved Txotxi, for everything and forever. This is for you and for your continuous support, love, happiness, and company. Thanks to be only you.
Sincerely,
Manuel Gerez
